Holy Trinity Church
We are making progress in beautifying the house of God. We were able
to return to the temple for the Feast of Pentecost, just as the
Apostle Paul returned to Jerusalem for the feast of Pentecost.
We still had much work to be done, but we are heading in the right
direction.
Pentecost is important to me because on or around Pentecost I was
received into the Orthodox Church by Fr. Gregory Pelesh, Chaplain,
Captain, U.S. Air Force. Our path crossed several times over
the years until he fell asleep in the Lord.
I enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1973. I was out of work at
the time. When asked what my religion was, I said "Eastern
Orthodox," although I was not really in the Church.
As a Byzantine Rite Catholic, I was exposed to the Orthodox
Church. Many of us were encouraged to attend Orthodox services
and to get to know the Orthodox Church.
A custom in the Orthodox Church is to decorate the temple with green
branches. The clergy and altar servers wear green. In
the West, they wear red. There are only two colors in the
Orthodox Church: light and dark. |
