When I received the announcement about this wonderful baptism I replied that I would not be able to attend because I normally do not leave my parish until after 14:00 or more often after 15:00.
On the day of the baptism, the vice president of our parish council handed me an envelope. It was the invitation which was mailed to the church. I looked at it and then looked at the clock and realized that I had plenty of time since there was nothing special happening at the church as far as I knew.
So I asked Michael to help me to get the Hygene Kits to my car so that I could take them over with me. We had collected 66 Hygene Kits to be sent by IOCC to a foreign country where they were badly needed. Since I live one mile from the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation and this was where they needed to go, I volunteered to take them. This baptism was perfect.
There were many at the baptism who knew me. But then, in the Orthodox Church we are really one big family. It is almost impossible to go to another church and not meet somebody whom you know or another friend knows. I had an opportunity to visit with several people and it was just wonderful. A couple of people commented that I don't come there as often as I used to come.
I sat at table with Steve Zolnerovich. His father was the Orthodox chaplain at Shephard AFB when I was in tech school. This really goes back a long time - centuries.
