Sunday of Orthodoxy 2008

Serving on the Sunday of Orthodoxy this year was a real treat! First of all, this was my first Sunday of Orthodoxy as a deacon. That in itself would make serving a treat. After the Vespers one of the priests commented that it was nice hearing me finally doing petitions.

Secondly, I served in a new temple. Actually, the temple is now a year old. But it is still new in my mind. Serving with Deacon Nicholas made it even more of a treat.

The third reason is that 36 hours earlier I was not sure that I would be able to serve. The medication which I was taking had some negative side effects, but the doctor changed the medication. Thank God that I have VA benefits!

After the Vespers we had a fantastic reception. Most of the time the clergy are seated at a head table in front of the hall or on the side, but this time the clergy were seated in the middle of the hall. This made us much more accessible to the laity.

Let's back up. In the morning we had Liturgy and after the Liturgy we had a procession of icons around the church as we usually do. The children walk in the procession and carry icons. I censed as we process. A friend several years ago once said, "Michael, you would process wih anything."
