A tradition in tahe Russian Church is to bless graves on Bright Saturday. However, because the clelrgy go to the cathedral in New York for the bishop's annual greeting, we do it on Thomas Sunday at Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church.Praying for the dead is a part of our tradition that goes back tothe early days of the Church.

Some people would say that this is not in the Bible nd maybe it is not directly, but it is indirectly. Christ promised us that He would send the Holy Spirit Who will teach us all things.

We read twice in the Gospel of St. John the Theologian that not everything that Jesus did is in the Bible since all the books in the world would not be able to hold them all. We also know from experience that we need to pray for the dead. It is not up to decide what good this does or how it helps. God knows and that is good enough for us.
