2009 Greek Festival - Saturday
Saturday was a very busy day for me. I started the day off with brunch with my regular Saturday morning breakfast group. I originally met Bob and Mary through the St. Maximos group.
Then I stopped by the Mount Vernon restaurant festival on the way to the Greek Festival. After the Greek Festival I had Vigil at our chapel in Elkridge MD.
I was late for Fr. Dean's church tour this time. Here are the notes:
The type of vestments today date back to the third century. The fringes on the stole represent the people under the priest’s spiritual care. Fr. Dean’s shield is hand stitched. When monks wandered in the desert, they would put bread in the back of the head piece and wrap the ends around the faces for protection against the sand.
Blue is worn for Mary and Theophany. Green is used for Pentecost and the rite of spring time.
The set of vestments that matches the Altar scheme is very fragile. It took a year and a half to make.
Here the services start on the dot.
