Martin Luther King Breakfast 2008
When Marianne invited me to attend the breakfast, I did not hesitate to accept. I know that it would be a good move for me to be there, but I could not afford the ticket. Thank God, there was space for me.
It was good seeing Charles Eaton of Hensel Phelps again. I knew him from my former employment with the Md. Washington Minority Contractors Association.
I was also impressed by the young people who escorted us to our table. They were very professional and I hope that others also recognize them. Unfortunately, we do not give our young people credit for the many wonderful things that they do. We spend too much time dwelling on those who get into trouble. Many of those who do get into trouble, do so because our parents are not doing their job. I won't talk much about the young girl at Jiffy Lube who is always tired because she does not do any thing and And she has a rather foul mouth. But I think that she is the exception and I suspect that if our parents took proper interest in her, she would be making a tremendous contribution to society.
The high light of the Breakfast for me was to meet Dr. Benjamin Carden, the famous neurosurgeon at Johns Hopkins Hospital. I had my photograph taken with him, and I also arranged to photograph Marianne Reynolds, my second line supervisor, with him.
I also had a chance to share some of my experience with some of the panelists. Many black people are happy to hear my story, not because it is about me, but because it is about what they can be.
I hope to type up my notes and post them in February 2008.
